Cheapest Acer Aspire One AO751h-1522 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 8 Hour Battery Life

It's a great netbook, good screen and keyboard... The battery is the best, you can stay almost 8 hours using it... great for long time flights... Comparing with my last netbook, Windows Vista made this new one slower than my Acer 10,2 1GB RAM with Windows XP... I think Acer should offer 751H with XP options... It will be the BEST.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AO751h-1522 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 8 Hour Battery Life.

Buying MSI U210-006US 12.1-Inch White Netbook - 5 Hour Battery Life

This was a great but on my part. The battery life makes this thing great for taking notes in classes. The keyboard on this is really quite and easy to use, if you have never used a netbook keyboard it will take a good day or two to get used to how close the keys are.

the only thing that feels a bit ironic is the tease of an HDMI port on the side, with a 1.6 ghz CPU there is no way you can decode videos in HD, MSI should of just made it S video. but it does more than I was expecting all in all, and it makes a great 250GB mp3 player XDGet more detail about MSI U210-006US 12.1-Inch White Netbook - 5 Hour Battery Life.

Purchase ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA-MU17-WT 10.1-Inch White Netbook - 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

I decided to purchase this one because it met and exceeded my requirements for a NETBOOK. The specs on this baby match up better than most. Great keyboard and mouse, keys feel great, wireless n, fast boot, upgradeable from 1GB to 2GB, user friendly ASUS Bios updater interface, Microsoft works, lightweight. You must understand first the context of my statement. I wanted a NETbook. Not a Laptop. I didnt want an "ultimate" or Professional" version of ANYTHING running on this NETbook. I wanted it to be lean and mean. I wanted a small, powerful, convenient AND FAST NETbook for casual surfing and email. If you wanted more, your in the wrong market. I didnt buy this to play games, edit, video, watch TV or DVD's, etc. Like I said I didn't want a Laptop. Windows Starter 32 bit is an excellent match for a NETbook. Think of Windows 7 Starter as just that, the place to start. I figured, if I NEED an "anytime upgrade" Ill get it. At this point, having had used it for a week, I'm not changing a thing. Less is more with a NETbook. Ill save upgrades for my LAPtop and DESKtop. From when I push the power button to my first opening click of Firefox = less than one minute. I removed some preloaded crapware, i.e. ASUS whistles and bells and some preloaded games. Added Norton Internet Security Netbook Edition, and bingo, the perfect NETbook. Cheap Acer Aspire One AOD250-1706 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - 7.5 Hour Battery Life

I read the reviews posted previously on this computer and have to agree with everyone else. It's a wonderful little computer that hardly weighs anything. Despite the location of the shift buttons on the keyboard, it is not difficult to navigate the keyboard at all. I highly recommend this little dynamite computer to anyone looking for a portable, tote-along computer that can do just about everything the big boys do.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD250-1706 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - 7.5 Hour Battery Life.

Buying Acer Aspire One AO751h-1545 11.6-Inch Black Netbook - 8 Hour Battery Life

The size of the Acer Aspire One is nice for portability. The keyboard is easy to work and the screen is reasonable to read, I just wish it would go faster. This machine is seriously slow! I can go faster on my 13-year old desktop. It probably has something to do with all the unwanted junk that's loaded onto it before you get it. However, if you're like me, you're not an engineer or tech-head, you just want to use a computer out-of-the-box, and you don't want to analyze it or spend a gazillion hours trying to figure out how to make it go faster, then this machine is not for you. Buy Acer Aspire One AO751h-1885 11.6-Inch White Netbook - 8 Hour Battery Life

GENERAL DAY-TO-DAY USE

I have been using this computer as my personal home computer for 3 months as of this review. I purchased a slightly different version from this one - mine has the 3-cell battery and 2GB of memory. I have since upgraded the battery to a 9 cell battery and get 8 hours of use per charge, which is very similar to this version of the Acer Aspire One 11.6". The product featured on this page only comes with 1 GB of memory. I highly recommend upgrading to 2 GB of memory. This is extremely important if you want to use multiple applications. It seems Acer wants to keep the price point at around $300-$350, so you either get 2 GB of RAM or the extended battery, but not both. You need both for the computer to be truly serviceable.

Overall, I find the computer to handle work applications very well. I usually have Firefox open with my Google Calendar and gMail, in addition to MS Word, Excel, and another application such as Adobe Lightroom, or PowerPoint. Like most people, I do a lot of multi-tasking. This computer does not have trouble managing all of this at the same time and it rarely bogs down. I love the small size from a portability perspective, and the 9 cell battery (this one comes with an 8 cell) provides a good grip to hold onto when carrying it around. I don't do any video editing, gaming, or high performance application use on this laptop.

SCREEN SIZE

If your considering whether to go with the 10" screen version or the 11.6" screen version, the difference between the two is fairly significant. My wife has the Aspire One 10" version, so I've been able to compare the two side by side. Instead of a 1024x768 screen resolution, you get 1366x768 with the 11.6" version, which basically gives you more room on the sides of the screen. This is great for allowing you to increase the zoom from ~80% to 125% of your document in MS Word, which makes the font appear much larger as you're working on your document. You won't have to scroll left and right to see the whole document at this expanded zoom level. My eyes aren't great, so this is very helpful for me. If you're worried about the screen on this computer being too small, the extra room on the sides actually makes a big difference. You can also see more of web site pages, which are noticeably limited in visibility on the 10" version but less so on the 11.6" netbook.

MOUSE TOUCH PAD

The mousepad is a little fussy and will often cause unwanted screen scrolling if you touch the pad the wrong way when trying to move the cursor. This is because mouse pad employs a circular motion with your finger to scroll, and it often misinterprets attempts to simply move the cursor as a command to scroll, which puts the user somewhere near the top or bottom of the page. I still haven't really gotten used to this. It would be nice if you could get rid of this effect and limit the use of the mousepad to moving of the cursor only. This would fix the problem, but you can't change the setting to limit the mousepad functionality in the Control Panel, at least I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. An external mouse could also fix the problem, but part of the beauty of a netbook is the portability, and I don't want to have to carry an external mouse around with me. Most of the time I use my netbook sitting in my lap where it would be impossible to use an external mouse anyway. If you use the mousepad, you will just have to get used to this scrolling feature and put up with the occasional unwanted scrolling.

VIDEO

As most others have noted in their reviews of this netbook, the 1.3 GHz Atom dual core processor and integrated graphics chip do not have sufficient power to view YouTube video. I have found this improves significantly with Windows 7 (see below). I have not tried to play DVDs on this laptop using an external CD/DVD drive, so no comment on how well this works.

OTHER OPERATING SYSTEM EXPERIENCE

BOTTOM LINE - Windows 7 is the best OS for this Laptop, but only by a nose over Vista

My laptop came pre-installed with Windows Vista (purchased July of 2009). I like playing with operating systems and thought it would be fun to try loading the following operating systems to see which one works best on this netbook:

a. LINUX Ubuntu / Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10
b. Windows XP Home Edition SP2
c. Windows Vista Homee Edition SP2
d. Windows Vista Dark Edition
e. Windows 7

In order to install other operating systems, you will need an external CD/DVD Drive that plugs in via USB and/or you will need a flash thumb drive with at least a 4-8 GB of space. The flash drive comes in handy if you want to install Linux, where the packages often come in flash-bootable formats. The BIOS on this netbook can be set to boot from the USB CD/DVD drive or from a USB flash drive by pressing F2 during boot to bring up the system BIOS menu and making the changes in the BIOS application directly - this is standard for nearly all computers.

WARNING #1: If you're not familiar with your system BIOS, please get a knowledgeable person to help you in making these changes. If you accidentally change the wrong thing, you may prevent your computer from booting altogether.

WARNING #2: The standard factory installed image comes with an application to create back-up bootable restore disks on CD or DVD. Make the DVD disks if you can; far fewer disks to create. Options include a full system recovery set of disks to restore the laptop to its original configuration plus a set of disks with the Windows Vista drivers and installed software. CREATE THESE DISKS BEFORE INSTALLING ANY OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS. If you don't, you won't be able to restore your computer to the factory install. There is no partition on the computer to restore the computer to factory installed settings and image - so you must create the disks!!!

LINUX (Ubuntu Standard / Ubuntu Netbook Remix v9.10) RATING: 2/10 BAD

I'm not a big fan of Microsoft products, so I've been carefully watching the Linux community to see when it will be ready for prime time for use on a home computer. Open Office from Sun provides a fantastic alternative to Microsoft Office series of products, and it runs on all platforms (Windows, Linux, and Mac OS). There are also many great distributions of Linux out there to choose from that are entirely free (the correct terminology is "open source")!!! I have had some success using and experimenting with the Ubuntu distribution of Linux on one of my home desktops, so I thought I would give it a try on this netbook to see how well it works.

I'm not an expert on Linux and this was my third foray into loading and using Ubuntu on a computer, but my first in loading Ubuntu on a laptop/netbook. I tried loading the standard Linux Ubuntu distribution, but it didn't turn out very well. I couldn't get a lot the hardware to work, such as the Wi-Fi and sound drivers. The Ubuntu Netbook Remix is optimized for an earlier version of the Acer AspireOne netbook, and it fixed most of these problems, but I was not able to get the hardware Wi-Fi on/off switch to work, but this is not a big deal. There is a software indicator on the desktop that you can use to turn the wi-fi function on/off.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix comes with a special configuration that displays commonly used elements of the operating system represented by icons on the desktop. The problem with this version (Ubuntu Netbook Remix v9.10) is that each time you click on one of the icons, the laptop lags for about 5-10 seconds before it moves focus to the next icon. This seems like an eternity and is totally unacceptable in terms of performance. Fortunately, you can switch to the standard Ubuntu desktop and it eliminates this problem. I used Firefox for internet browsing, which comes standard with Ubuntu and it was very sluggish and unresponsive. I was amazed at the poor performance. I think this is due to the fact that the Linux driver for the graphics chip is not as good as the Vista graphics driver that comes standard with the netbook. Overall lag and multi-tasking is impossibly slow and feeels really sluggish, not sharp. I had carefully researched the appropriate packages to install to try and fix this problem, but nothing improved the performance. Last, I could not get my printer to work in Ubuntu. Most printer manufacturers don't produce Linux drivers for their printers, so you have to be careful which printer you use. If you're like me, you already have a printer and you're not looking to buy a new one. I have a Canon printer, and there are no Linux printer drivers for Canon printers - period. Overall, Ubuntu was a failure for me with this laptop. It was too slow and I couldn't print - these are show stoppers for me. Please comment on my review if you are able to get it working better than I did because I'd love to eventually use Linux over Microsoft operating systems.

WINDOWS XP HOME EDITIION SP2 - RATING: 4/10 So-So to Poor

At first I thought XP would perform better than Vista, but again I was wrong. Vista is much better at memory management than XP is. After installing XP, I carefully installed all of the appropriate drivers. Be careful to install the correct mouse pad driver or it will be almost unusable. Again, performance was sluggish, though not nearly as bad as Linux Ubuntu Netbook Remix. For some reason, bringing up internet sites was very slow. Again, I used Firefox as I did with Linux Ubuntu for the sake of consistency. It doesn't come standard with XP, so I downloaded it. Trying to run multiple applications on this laptop using Windows XP is nearly impossible. Performance slows to a crawl and is basically unusable for a multi-tasker like me who likes to Alt-Tab across 4-6 applications while I'm working. Overall, XP was a failure for me with this laptop.

WINDOWS VISTA HOME EDITION SP2 - RATING 8/10 Very Good

As I mentioned above, this laptop comes preloaded with Windows Vista SP2 (as of my purchase date July 2009) and it is very apparent that the hardware drivers have been optimized for this operating system. Overall system responsiveness is quick and sharp. You can have 3-4 applications open with no noticeable performance hit. Once you have 5-6 open at the same time, you will notice some lag, but its manageable and depends on how much processor power you're using per application which is going to vary. All of the hardware works perfectly under Vista and you don't have to search for drivers. There is no way to create a basic Windows Vista basic install disk - the only way you can install Vista is from the full system recovery disk. This is bothersome if you want to install Vista but you want to create partitions for logical drives.

I have my own Vista install disk so I was able to create partitions and extra logical drives, but in the end I switched back to a single drive. This hard disk is only 250 GB in size and splitting it up into logical hard drives just didn't make any sense. Also, it is so easy to boot from USB drives that I am able to use Acronis image backup software to save my computer image at any given time from my external USB drive.

WINDOWS VISTA DARK EDITION - RATING: 8.1/10 Very Good

Vista Dark Edition is a special version of Vista that has some optimizations for managing files as well as some fun themes and backgrounds. Other than that, it's pretty much the same as Vista Home Edition. Overall, I found Vista Dark Edition to operate exactly the same as Vista Home Edition SP2 from a performance perspective. I just like the cool desktop backgrounds that come with Vista Dark Edition. The only reason for the extra 0.1 on the rating for this version is the cool desktop backgrounds, which many of you may not care about. If you don't care about the extra desktop backgrounds, then the adjusted rating for you would be 8/10, same as Vista Home Edition SP2.

WINDOWS 7 - RATING: 9/10 Excellent

I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista Dark Edition. I installed Windows 7 directly from the Windows 7 DVD and it installed easily without any problems. It took about 3 hours to run, and I didn't have to intervene - I was able to just watch TV while it upgraded on its own. I've noticed that the laptop runs slightly faster, and that I can now view YouTube videos with minimal lag. This is probably attributable to the fact that Windows 7 is by far the best at managing memory use, which makes it actually better than Vista and XP on slow machines or laptops. I can still run 3-4 applications simultaneously; the navigation is very smooth going from app to app when using Alt-Tab. I am new to Windows 7 and understand there are better ways to navigate from window to window than using Alt-Tab, but old habits die hard. You also have the added benefit of being able to run YouTube videos without significant lag, which was just not possible when using Windows Vista. I highly recommend upgrading this laptop to Windows 7.

Order Acer Aspire One AOD250-1924 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 7.5 Hour Battery Life

I purchased my Acer netbook to take with me on a recent trip to France. I needed email access (own my own business) so I could keep in touch. The netbook worked perfectly. I had great wireless internet coverage. I was also able to make and change reservations & access maps. I'm so glad I purchased this. It made my trip a delight and reduced stress for me and my employees since they were able to communicate with me while I was on vacation. Plus I could fit it in my purse and it's not heavy. The Acer performed just as I expected - fast, easy to use, easy to transport. Now I'm working on integrating it into my everyday work life and taking it on consultations. Two thumbs up!

Where To Buy Acer Aspire One AOA150-1706 8.9-Inch Copper Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life

I am not sure if I am going to send this back or not. Will start off by saying in the past I was partners in a small computer business. So, know some about computers. I realize I can not compare this to my lap and desktop computers.

This netbook takes a very long time to do everything. Start up, get anywhere, go online, shut down. I had read reviews saying how fast theirs were~ what is wrong with mine? I have gone into msconfig to try to stop a zillon preinstalls from loading. It still is very slow. I turn it on, can literally go to another room, get a cup of coffee come back and it is still booting.

There seems to be a delay every time I click the mouse~ like it is trying to figure out what to do. No way I could multitask on it. The hourglass spins and spins.

I have a linksys wireless home network. Every other computer in the house connects at 16-20m. I can not get the netbook to even 5m. Facebook is impossible to use. Almost slower then dialup.

I do like the size and ease of using. It is pretty and convenient; but feel it is so slow it is close to being worthless. Anyone with suggestions I am open to about anything before seriously considering returning it.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1706 8.9-Inch Copper Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life.

HP Mini 311-1000NR 11.6-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 6.25 Hours of Battery Life

I just bought this product in Fry's electronics. In regards to the one star rating, always buy expensive electronics from a store. Better yet, the saleman had an opened box that was pretty much unused, but I still got a $20 discount.

Only annoying thing is the username being Fry's Electronics, but that's changeable when I stop being lazy.

Toshiba Mini NB205-N310/BN 10.1-Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life Review

I recently purchased the Toshiba NB 205 to replace a first generation HP netbook that was no longer fulfilling my needs. I'm a graduate student that spends a good deal of time away from my home base, and I required a system with more "oomph" that allowed me to do essentially everything I do on my desktop (mostly word processing, database creating and management, heavy web browsing and viewing streaming video).

While I'm basically comparing this product to a very barebones system running Linux SUSE 10 and with an outdated processor, I have to say that thus far, the Toshiba really is top of the line. I can essentially run any combination of programs at any time with no slowdown, it has no problem handling streaming video, and it boots up in seconds (very nice when dashing from class to class with little time for waiting around). One of the features that attracted me to this netbook versus the many others flooding the market was the chicklet-style keyboard. It doesn't just look snazzy; the spaces between keys really cuts down on typing errors, and considering crowded keyboards are basically de rigeur for most netbooks, this was a great addition. Having a trackpad layout identical to larger laptops was a great relief, also; having the mouse buttons on either side on my older netbook was something I never really got used to, and the Toshiba boasts a much more familiar and comfortable setup.

I was concerned that the large battery, despite adding much more functional life between charges, would make the unit look and/or feel awkward, but this really isn't the case. Also, everything good that's been said about the battery life is absolutely true; considering what I use it for, I could probably keep it running throughout the day without having to plug it in, which is invaluable in situations when power outlets are at a premium. Overall the unit looks and handles wonderfully (I've only had it two days and have in fact received several compliments on it, even a few from those using those sleek Macs). I haven't encountered any problems with excessive heat despite running it for a few hours at a time.

The NB 205 features an accelerometer much like the Mac laptops which senses when the unit shifts suddenly or experiences an impact and locks the hard drive in place to prevent damage. This is an excellent feature and was the only element that made me comfortable purchasing a netbook with an actual hard drive versus a solid state drive; solid state drives have no moving parts and so are less likely to incur damage when jostled, and so the extra protection, while still benefiting from the large storage capacity, is a huge plus.

The unit itself, when placed next to other 10.1 inch netbooks, looks deceptively larger. It's an interesting optical illusion, however; when placed side by side with my wife's Acer, the screens are actually the same size, and the Toshiba is only slightly bigger overall. The weight difference is negligible, also, which is impressive given the system's capabilities.

Some reviewers mentioned difficulties with adjusting the display to achieve a comfortable clarity; I have already used it in a variety of lighting environments and have yet to experience this problem. Maybe my eyes are just more willing to adapt to sub-par conditions, but no adjustment was necessary for me.

I intend to eventually run Windows 7 on this system. I'm unfamiliar with this OS, but considering other reviewers have done so and elected to not add more RAM without any significant drops in performance, I'd say it's clear that this netbook is easily one of the most powerful on the market right now. If you're looking for a highly portable system that can handle whatever you're willing to throw at it, the NB 205 is well worth the price of admission. It's a juggernaut...in a very small package.Get more detail about Toshiba Mini NB205-N310/BN 10.1-Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD250-1165 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life Top Quality

I've read about this computer on several websites. Amazon.com had the best price. I bought this thing on June 17. By mid-July the screen started to flicker and then died. I troubleshooted this problem by plugging it into my TV proving that it was the LCD screen that had died in less than 1 month. I used my warranty and I had to pay to send it to their service center in Texas. When I got the computer back the screen flickered the same day I got it, so I sent it back to them. The second time I got the computer back the left side hinge for the LCD screen was broken and obviously gouged with a screw driver and it was missing one of the rubber legs on the bottom, so I sent it in again....... I got it back today. Having owned this computer for just over 4 months, only being able to use if for roughly 2 months, they repaired the hinge and replaced the rubber leg with a SMALLER ONE. Now it does not even sit balanced. Very disappointed in Acer. This is my FORTH Acer computer since 1998 and am very disappointed not only in this computer but their repair service. I hope all my writing here helps someone.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD250-1165 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life.

I bought this product in April, 2009. I began to use it in May, and I must admit from the moment I started it up it seemed a little slow. I thought it was just because it was loading everything for the first time, but my sisters seemed to think it should have been better. Well, it went strong for a little while, but then quickly deteriorated. It began to get really slow, and then the odd time wouldn't let me open my files. My picture, computer, all of those. Then it wouldn't let me open them at all. Said there was a error with windows, and that I needed to send and error report, but if i tried to send the error report my whole computer would freeze, and I'd need to restart. My computer became very slow, and now it won't even turn on! It's been that way for about 2 months now, and every time I try to turn it on it flashed a blue screen error. Unfortunately, I had a lot of pictures and files on it. I wouldn't recommend this product. It definitely brought Acer down in my estimation.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1447 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Sapphire Blue.

Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-USE020AM Netbook with Integrated TV Tuner - Alpine White

I just purchased my Dell Mini 10 (Blue Cover) and I have to say that this was one of the best investments I ever made. If you think you are getting a high end laptop for the price of three-hundred bucks, then you are sorely mistaken. This is basically a smart phone PDA increased to the size of a ten inch screen with a keyboard attached. Most of the bells & whistles are intact.

At first it took me some time to get use to the screen. Websites are slightly altered due to the 10 inch screen, so and with the tool bar on top that includes (File, Refresh, etc) it can seem like there's hardly any room to view webpage's, but you'll get use to it. Viewing any site that you would on a regular desktop will have certain parts of the page moved around when viewing it on your netbook & this is to be expected because of the size.

I know everyone is complaining about the keypad, but it's really not that bad. It does take a few tries before you realized what works best for you. I've learned from having a Dell Studio Laptop that the best thing to do is just utilize the free space as a mouse and click. Don't bother trying to hit down on the key, but just double tap on the keypad to pick a selection. If you don't, you will find the experience of navigating through websites, typing a document on word, etc to be a horrendous experience.

Otherwise, if you are looking for a great small compact netbook to stay connected to the web, check email, browse a few sites - then this is the netbook for you. There isn't much customization due to the small size of the netbook that feels very light just a little under three pounds and practically smaller and skinnier then the new Twilight book. I would have it ordered it on amazon, but it was cheaper through Dell.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase because it's a great investment for anyone who needs internet access on the go. The only complaint I have is the price. I know its three-hundred, but I own a regular laptop with a 15 inch screen & that HP was only three-hundred. Sure, it was not a high end groundbreaking laptop, but it does the trick & power wise, it's stronger than the mini. I really feel the price point should drop by hundred bucks. Otherwise, this is still a great PC tool to have.

Pros:
Light weight (Less then three pounds)
Customizable Cover with different colors
Windows XP (Thank GOD - Vista is so WHACK)
Keyboard is 90% size of a real keyboard
Wi-Fi
3 USB slots
160GB Memory
1.66 GHZ
1GB RAM

Cons:
A bit pricey IMO - It really should be two hundred & under

I love this ruby red netbook.. It is so pretty and cute and light and works way better connecting to my wireless connection than my regular laptop. The only disappointment was finding out that it did not have bluetooth in it already. You can buy a small bluetooth device though. I finally found a carrying case online that fits perfectly. It does have a multi cardreader which you can transfer info or pics etc through from your other computers so that makes it easier to get stuff in it. I am going to see if my portable USB hard drive, which I use for backup works, which it should because the netbooks is USB enabled. All in all, this is a fabulous little netbook that you can drag from room to room and even to your bed at night or sit outside on your patio or front steps with as well as travel simply. It fits in my purse.

HP Mini 110-1020NR 10.1-Inch Netbook - Up to 3.5 Hours of Battery Life This instant

Skeptical was my first reaction when I popped into a computer store and saw the 110. It's size and weight (comparable to a ladies purse or a hardcover novel) made me a bit leary about even thinking about getting a netbook.

But it's a different world these days and the screen on even the best smart phone doesn't make browsing easy.

The HP Mini 110 sets up with no troubles. Finding my wireless router (and the WiFi at my local Starbuck's) was also an uncomplicated process. Yes, the keyboard is a bit too small and the mouse pad takes a lot of patience to use but consider that you can haul this laptop anywhere. And, despite the fact that it is loudly touted as a means to surf the web, don't let that restrict you. The HP Mini 110 can handle an office suite so you really can have the best of both worlds. In fact, I found that the HP Mini 110 works better on software then with certain web applications (YouTube, Hulu, etc. are easy to access but the video's are choppy and playback is poor).

So, for the money (and you'll have enough left over to buy a DVD drive to load this guy up and a mouse), I highly recommend this netbook.Get more detail about HP Mini 110-1020NR 10.1-Inch Netbook - Up to 3.5 Hours of Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AO751h-1145 11.6-Inch Red Netbook - 6 Cell battery Immediately

I've been using my Acer for about three weeks and I'm very pleased with it. My boyfriend has the Aspire One w/ the 10 inch screen and I find the 11.6" screen to be far superior -- w/ my 11.6" screen, the full webpage is always displayed, which is not the case w/ the 10." The full-size keyboard is another clear advantage of the larger Aspire One.

I went for the 6 cell battery and it had enough juice for 6 hours of note taking. I use my Acer for internet browsing and word processing (I use Open Office, so no need to pay for the upgrade from MSWorks to MSOffice).Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AO751h-1145 11.6-Inch Red Netbook - 6 Cell battery.

HP Mini 110-1030NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 6.75 Hours of Battery Life Best Quality

What this is not...
This is NOT a powerhouse computer. This is NOT intended to be a computer where you'll be doing heavy photo / video editing.

What this is...
This IS a light-weight long lasting battery (6 real hours with the "larger battery"!) Netbook. It's great for surfing the web, doing e-mail, chat, etc. I bought it because I knew I'd be away from home for business and wanted my kids to be able to chat with me. The webcam works very well, the microphone / speakers are just fine. I haven't installed much more than what it comes with (only switched the web browser to the one I like better than IE).

I recommend this for...
- People who already have a "main computer" (laptop or desktop) and want something light to travel, with a long lasting battery.
- People who are on a budget and want something small (with "limited capabilities") for daily use.

One last note... yes, the keys are small... yes, you get used to it very quickly!

Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2-Inch Blue Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life Get it now!

This is a great little computer. It does everything that I want and is small and light weight. I was fearful that I would not like the smaller screen because I use my computer to watch tv shows and movies, but the clarity makes up for its small size. The keyboard is a bit smaller than standard, but I find it very easy to use. The battery is what they promised, at least 6 hours with watching videos. I was able to add and external dvd/cd player, my fax/scanner/printer and some other software and had no problem with compatability. I recieved the computer when it was promised and had it up and running in minutes. I have not used the cam or bluetooth but they seem to be user friendly. I just love this computer and think it is very well priced and is very cute.Get more detail about Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2-Inch Blue Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life.

Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/P 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 2.5+ Hour Battery Life Best Quality

I bought several netbooks and this by far is the best. I would prefer black, but I choose the white over brown. It won't be long when they add a CD drive. If you need additional storage space an external hard drive will suffice. I am a name brand person and Sony held their name on this one. Its worth the extra few dollars. The hard drive and picture quality is superb. I do alot of traveling and this little bad boy is a perfect size for that and the appearance is none other, hey its a VAIO! I am a U.S. Contractor and taken this to the sand box (Iraq) and its been outside the wire many times and its built tough like the MRAPs. I do suggest buying a HP sleeve for it cause it fits perfectly and the neoprene is thicker. Get more detail about Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/P 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 2.5+ Hour Battery Life.

Toshiba Mini NB205-N325WH 10.1-Inch Frost White Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Get it now!

I bought this computer two days and I have not been able to access the web via my wireless connection yet. My internet is working fine on all of my other computers on my the network. The weird thing is that, I can only access google.com and nothing else. And the netbook claims that it is receiving my internet at a 100% ( all five bars of the wireless indicator are lit up). Even weirder, when I went to return it, there was another customer in line with the EXACT same problem. She could only access google.com and nothing else. FIVE hours on the phone with tech support did not solve anything. So if you buy this computer it may not work with you router, which pretty much makes this netbook useless and defeats that purpose of getting netbook. A netbook is supposed to be portable and if I have to worry about whether this or that router is compatible with it, than this netbook is not portable. Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-USE022AM with Integrated TV Tuner - Ice Blue Buy Now

I just got this, directly from Amazon. So far I love it. There were not a lot of details on Amazon, but it has everything I hoped and more. It was cheaper than if ordered it through Dell with the same features (cost $325 on Amazon when I got it), and arrived in less than 4 days from when I placed my order, with the free super saver shipping. It has Windows XP Home, Microsoft works, a digital tv tunerand antenna, SD card reader (might work for other cards, but I only have SD), three USB ports, one HDMI and more. It also came with the 6 cell battery. What a great surpise. It was simple to set up and was up and running in about 5 minutes. It is also easy to use. I have an optical mouse I am using with it and ordered an external DVD/CD drive on ebay. I looked and looked on ebay and bid on several netbooks, but they either went too high or I was outbid. This is a much better deal anyway. I'm very happy!Get more detail about Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-USE022AM with Integrated TV Tuner - Ice Blue.

Save ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-PU17-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 10.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

For those who are wondering, you can change the wallpaper. You'll have to install System Setting Utility from ASUS which can also be used to change wallpaper at timed intervals automatically.

Despite what the other reviewer claims, in the end he reviewed the wrong product. Even though it is similar, it is not the same. There is definitely hardware changes to the Windows 7 version.

I really like this netbook pc. I wanted something small enough to be able use it like the larger leg warmers and not have to feel like I'm lugging a brick around all the time. This fit the bill perfectly. The sleeve that came with this looks to be good quality and well padded, I wouldn't spend the extra money on another one. I might upgrade the memory, but at the moment it seems sufficient enough for what I need.

The netbook uses the GMA950 integrated graphic chip. You can overclock these with the GMA Booster to 400MHz. I also read the netbook is stable if overclock to 1.9GHz, but I haven't tried it. The Eee Super Hybrid Engine which controls the preset power modes do adjust CPU clock speeds depending on mode. If you plan on upgrading memory, I suggest you spend the extra $3 for the 800Mhz FSB module which is more compatible when in super high performance mode.

Windows 7 runs pretty good on this netbook. The starter edition doesn't seem at all limited to me. I'm able to get around the wallpaper limitation and connect to my home network easily with desktops using Vista. I am just glad Windows 7 starter's run 3 applications limit wasn't imposed, it would have been the deal breaker. Wikipedia has a list of what isn't available in this edition and to me, it isn't worth spending extra to upgrade to the next edition.

Also Amazon Prime is great, $3.99 for overnight shipping. Can't beat that.

UPDATE: On this version, you can pretty easily change the logon wallpaper also. Just navigate to C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\BACKGROUNDS and replaced the image with one with the same name, resolution, and no more than 256kb.

After using the netbook a few days, I find this OS does a good job on memory usage. My Vista machines are memory hogs and I'm probably going to upgrade those now.Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-PU17-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 10.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).

Cheap Toshiba Mini NB205-N312/BL 10.1-Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life

It's a juggernaut...in a very small package.Get more detail about Toshiba Mini NB205-N312/BL 10.1-Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life.

Buy HP Mini 110-1050NR 10.1-Inch Netbook

I've only had my Mini for one day so far, but have found it to be one slick machine. We bought it to take with us on trips to keep up to date on emails and follow the market, etc. It is going to be perfect for that. For heavy use I will still use my desk top. Battery pack is not a problem. Don't let that keep you from buying one. The Mini does take a while to set up. The directions could be a little more clear and the operating system required extensive updating but that is covered in the instruction booklet and not a big problem...just takes some time.
I could have waited for the 7 to come out, but at this price and since this is the system I have been using for years, why wait. Somebody said it was heavy...I don't think less than 3 lbs should be a problem for most people. After some practice I now no longer reach for the mouse and am getting used to the slightly smaller key board and the mouse pad. It just takes a little practice. Overall the coumpeter is well made, very solid, keyboard has a nice touch, in general a well made machine. Not like some of those I looked at while shopping at the local computer mega-store. So, so far so good. Hope I feel the same after 6 months.

Where To Buy ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 10.5 Hour Battery Life

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3EZA5NYDZCVWM I am a middle aged woman who was ready to get off the PC and be mobile and didn't want to deal with the weight or expense of a nice Laptop.

I spent a LOT of time researching before I bought because I don't plan on upgrading every time a new bell or whistle comes out. I know I made the right choice.

Great battery life, very fast on my wireless router, does websites with flash and other media supported elements and even though I still love my Blackberry I needed something with a bit more "umph" to store vacation pics in on the road and attach files to email. No, there's no DVD player in it...but I have watched Netflix instant movies on it with my Netflix accounts. That's better because one less thing to carry (CD jewel cases) makes it lighter and more mobile.

I have friends with Laptops and they say once they load all the cables and chargers and accessories it weighs in at about 15 pounds. I like my lightweight Asus even more now. Sure this one has a larger battery. But it doesn't really make a huge difference and it gives me a nice "handle" on the netbook.

Acer AOD250-1515 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Order Now

I bought this netbook as a replacement to my 4 year old Dell laptop. I didn't really need a new, expensive laptop as I primarily use my work laptop for for memory and processor hungry activities. I figured an inexpensive netbook would be a fine replacement for browsing the web, sending personal email, shopping online, hitting up facebook, etc. And so far, so good.

I've only been using it for 24 hours, but so far everything seems to work well. I am quite pleased with Windows 7 Starter as well. I am a product manager for a large software company and have used several OS version. I hated Vista and was reluctant to go with Windows 7, but so far, I am not disappointed.

Pros:
- All the features for less $ (faster processor, bluetooth, web cam, 250HDD, WiFi b/g/n, extended battery)
- Windows 7 Starter
- Color combo is appealing
- Decent touchpad (better than the D150 series!)
- Extended battery does NOT extend under the laptop, but out the back, like most laptops.

Cons:
- The keyboard is smaller than comparable other netbooks. I wish the keys were bigger. It can be challenging to type. The Dell and HP mini's have larger keys, but have the extended battery extend under the laptop. Not something I wanted to trade off for.
- The glossy case could be challenging to keep clean... not sure yet as it's only been 24 hours.
